Hevy Festival: Main Stage: Saturday

The main stage at Hevy on Saturday was full of really heavy bands, which made the security a bit ‘on edge’ for most of the day. The number of photographers (usually between 25 and 35) meant that there was many bands the photographers only got one or two songs to take pictures, before being moved out of the photopit. The number of photographers also meant is was harder to move about, so for some sets I mainly tried to get a good spot and then stayed there. The ever changing weather conditions, from overcast to bright sunshine, meant changing my setting all the time.

First band Feed The Rhino were great. Overcast conditions meant the lights behind the band really stood out. Singer Lee Tobin became the first of many singers to make his way in to the crowd.

Before Trash Talk came on stage all the photographer were warned that Trash Talk have a reputation to going into the crowd, and things getting rough, and that we might all be asked to leave. First sound in and after downing a load of JD guitarist Garrett Stevenson followed their singer, Lee Spielman in to the photopit, and into the crowd. Lee Speilman strung his mic around above his head, hitting one security guard with it, and then the photographers were asked to move out. Only one and a half songs to shoot, but got two ok shots.

Rolo Tomassi are always good live, and the sun came out for them. The sun over powered all the lights, coudln’t quite get my settings right til photographers were about to be thrown out.

Fucked Up were another band we got moved out of the photopit early, as singer Damian Abraham jumped into the crowd at the end of the first song. He preceded to spent the rest of the set in the crowd. Thanks again to the overcast weather, the on stage lights really enhanced the shots.

By the time Comeback Kid came onstage the sun had set, and with hardly any lights on the front of stage (apart from mainly red and purple), most of my shots were unuseable. Managed to get a couple of shots with enough light on them.

Gallows came on just after 10pm, and with the stage filled with red and purple light and not allowed to use flash meant it was hard to get shots I was happy with. I got one lucky shot, catching someone elses flash just enough to light up their guitarists face.

Still to come…loads of photos from Sunday at Hevy Festival (all of which I’m happier with) including Madina Lake, Young Guns, Glassjaw, The King Blues, The Subways, Failsafe, Canterbury and Me Vs Hero.
