It’s always sad to hear about natural disasters in other parts of the world, but, for me, waking up yesterday to find out about the earthquake in Christchurch meant more than that. Back in October 2009, I traveled to Christchurch and was overwhelmed by a beautiful city and the friendliest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.

It took over 36 hours from leaving our front door to get to Christchurch, and we arrived very tired and, due to Jetstar, without any of our possessions/clothes. Usually I’d be annoyed at this, but every single person we came into contact with made me, and my girlfriend Kirstie, smile, and I have never felt more welcome in a city before. Whilst in the UK people will cross the road to avoid eye contact, in Christchurch, on our first morning there, every single person we saw said hello and asked how we were. Christchurch is the kind of place you visit and never want to leave. And once you have had breakfast at Drexels you will never want to have breakfast anywhere else again. My best wishes goes out to any in Christchurch, or who has family and friends there.

I just wanted to highlight that the Red Cross currently have an appeal to raise money to help Christchurch. Please consider donating: click here for more information.

I don’t usually sell any of my travel photos, but should anyone wish to buy prints or downloads of the photos on this page, you can (all profits will be donated to the Red Cross New Zealand Earthquake Appeal). At the top of this page is Christchurch Cathedral, which is in Cathedral Square in the centre of Christchurch. The photo at the bottom is from the top of Christchurch Gondola, looking out at Lyttleton Harbour.
These photos are available from my Photoshelter: Christchurch Photos.
